Merry Christmas!
Dec. 25th, 2007 06:11 pmTwenty-five years ago today I was living in Cambridge, and in mid-afternoon I cycled to Impington to drop in on friends. On the way I paused as I cross the bridge that carries Histon Road over the A45 (now A14) northern by-pass. For as far as you could see, there wasn't a vehicle to be seen on that normally hectic highway. Today, as I walked over to Walney beach to enjoy the (unforecast) sunshine and get some sea air into my lungs, the traffic was only a little less than on a normal weekday morning. How times change! Where, I wonder, are they all going?
All the same, I've been having an enjoyable day. The first Christmas I've spent on my own for three years now (that was a happy occasion too - isn't Livejournal great, the way you can look back to see how it was, and goodness, it's nearly four years since I've been keeping this journal!). Special breakfast - a fry up with a dry martini - and lunch and dinner have been merged this year so I just had roast duck with roast potatoes, parsnips, sweert potato and gooseberry sauce. Pudding is still to come and after that comes the film show: Chocolat this year, and Woody Allen's Radio Days.
Oh, and I was spoilt rotten by Eileen/cross-patch in my BCUK Secret Father Christmas parcel:

And did I mention that Truffle chose today to be a big growed-up girl and have her first oestrus?
