I went out for a walk to see if I could see any fireworks.

There were plenty around, I could see or hear them. But the strange thing was that the streets seem eerily silent despite the almost constant bangs and shrieks. There are no bonfires. None at all, not even in the distance. No parties in the garden. No sparklers, no waft of baked potato, no smoke in the air. That's it, the air should be thick and smoky and autmnal. Instead it's crisp and clean and dark and rather sterile.

I wonder when it all stopped?

That is sad. We had a really smokey sky here and lots of Fizz, Bang Pops going off until late!

We had an eerily quiet Hallowe'en though...no Trick or Treaters at all and no children wandering the streets in strange outfits. Bit sad really.

When I lived in Hull there was always a big thing made of Mischief Night, on the evening before Bonfire Night. In many ways it was seen by the local kids as more important than the night itself. Perhaps that's kept the area impervious to the encroachment of trick or treat?

Well, I used to love Mischief Night but that seems to have died a thousand deaths as well. Perhaps it is the area I live in, they are all miserable! We have had our window egged a few times...but not on Mischief Night, all through the summer! Flipping idiots.
