and Truffle...

(I'm afraid you can't see Truffle very well yet because Tosca is being protective)
There have been a couple of false alarms this week, but it was clear from very early on today that something was up. Tosca was busy evaluating nest sites in my bedroom, finally settling on the bottom of the wardrobe, where she depostited her Beany-Baby kitten. Then she climbed under my duvet and was more than usually affectionate.
When I got up she followed me downstairs, more reluctantly than usual, and hovered around me all through breakfast. When I checked my email she jumped into my lap, something she never does. Then she made it clear she wanted me to follow her to the bottom of the wardrobe and watch her. When I went to go to the loo, she followed me and complained until I returned. Apart from that, for about an hour she sat in there, shifting position now and then, and purring very loudly. From time to time she had contractions. Then she had one particular contraction which hurt and she let out a big wail. Then she left the wardrobe and crawled under the bed. At this point she didn't need me any more.
And then there was a squeak and she was busy licking something.
The proud mother is feeling really pleased with herself now, and so she ought!
Well done, Tosca!

Kitten Update
Apr. 28th, 2007 04:32 pmThere have been four kittens altogether. The first, Liquorice, lived only an hour after birth. Truffle is small and doesn't seem to be getting much nipple but she's still hanging in there at the time of writing. Marshmallow seems strong and healthy and has been stuck fast to the nipple for the last four hours. A fourth, an all-black one called Treacle, was stillborn.

Truffle and Marshmallow

It's hard to see Marshmallow because she's the same colouring as Tosca and she ain't letting go of that nipple!
