Shortly after 1 o'clock this morning the tide in Walney Channel reached 10.3 metres, the highest of the year, and your intrepid reporter left the comfort of her sofa to record it! There was a brisk south-easterly following the tide up the Channel just to make it interesting and to wet the legs of my jeans while I supervised the tripod.
The highest tides invariably cover the Promenade - which I always refer to as FDR Drive - for a short stretch in front of the Ferry Hotel. Although this is utterly predictable, Barrow Council don't seem to make any preparations or put up any warnings. It's fun to watch the cars come down the hill from North Scale and hit the Irish Sea full on!
More pictures here. I especially like the way the Walney Bridge appears to be sitting on the water.
