The Decline of Entertainment at the Hands of the Market

It wasn't Oliver Postgate being on Desert Island Discs this morning that led to my finding his delightful (though infrequently updated) blog, because I didn't know about that until after I'd been reminiscing in another place about such delights as Noggin the Nog and Bagpuss.

They were low-tech animations, made lovingly by Postgate and his collaborator Peter Firmin on a tiny budget, and they were some of the most enduring memories of childhood, staying ion the mind long after more sophisticated productions.

I know some readers of this journal find my views of the entertainment industry somewhat bizarre and reactionary, so I was very pleased to find Oliver Postgate expressing my thoughts exactly. I couldn't put them better than this.
